Moog Protokraft received another production order in support of the PATRIOT Missile System PFOM (PATRIOT Fiber Optic Modem) unit. In 2004, the US Army fielded the Lightning series transceiver design for use in the PFOM, which provides the non-radiating communication link between major end items and PATRIOT fire units. The recent production order marks the 10 Year Anniversary of supporting this critical platform.
The Moog Protokraft Lightning transceiver is used to enable the conversion of electrical data to optical data. The Lightning transceiver series is designed to withstand the harshest of environments in a form-factor never seen before in the industry. Moog Protokraft Lightning series optoelectronic components duplicate the functions of typical datacom or telecom fiber optic transceivers and are packaged inside a standard MIL-DTL-38999 connector housing.
This space saving design eliminates the need for fragile fiber optic harnesses, SFP's and the circuitry needed to adapt them. The Lightning series offers an extreme SWaP that is required by modern high-speed military communications systems.
